What age is the Itsy Bitsy Spider for?
Any age from birth to about five. Babies enjoy your voice and hands, toddlers start copying parts of it, and most preschoolers can sing it and do the actions on their own.
Babies
Sing it and let your fingers walk up their arm or tummy. They don’t need to copy you yet. Your face, voice and the tickle at the end are the whole point.
Toddlers
Many children start copying simple gestures around their first birthday, so expect the rain wiggle before the spider climb. Twisting finger to thumb is hard, and plenty of two-year-olds just open and close their hands. That still counts.
Three and up
This is where they start owning it: singing alone, correcting you, and changing the words on purpose. Try a giant spider in a low voice or a tiny spider in a squeak, then ask them to invent another.
